Freedom to teach the gospel and preach Gods word.

We have so many things to be thankful for here in the United States of America. Think about that statement for a moment. Here in the good ol’ U.S.A. we have so very much to be thankful for. What do you thank God most for as an American? Is it the fact that we have an abundance in this country even in a time when the economy is poor? Is it as simple as the fact that you have a warm place to sleep and clean running water? Would it possibly be the fact we live in a country where we have a voice, freedom of speech?

Yes, it’s true we do have many things, too many to even mention to be thankful for here in the U.S.A.

With all that being said and while hoping that I made you think and ponder what you are thankful for as an American, and if you know Jesus as your savior as a fellow Christian.

What is it that you most treasure? Is it those things that if the freedom was taken from you that you would never have even thought of? “What do you mean?” This is probably the question facing you now… What if someone told you that you could not read the Bible, that it was against the law? Or that you could not assemble together with other believers (go to church)? Or that you could not go out and share the word of God and who Jesus was to others especially in public.

That’s some of the things that I just was wondering…Hmmm if there’s so many people out there who are confessed to be followers of God and are not really doing much right now, or have had their once hot flame grow cold for serving the Lord…does that mean that they are taking the freedom that has been afforded to them by being born in or moving to a free country? Would it take possibly losing this freedom to get them zealous for what Jesus did for them? Would it take them loosing the freedom that many died for so that they could live and experience it here in the United States Of America, for them to actually appreciate it?

I’m just saying that what if??? Why wait to do what God’s word so clearly states that we should do? Many people who don’t live in a free country like the U.S.A. have to hide to assemble together with other believers (go to church) they have to share a bible between several families..they die for what they believe in, become Martyrs.

There is a movement that’s going on right now in the U.S.A. to indoctrinate our children of this nation into believing things that are untruths. To get them to think a certain way and to vote a certain way and to grow up with those values that are given to them..by the media, school, science, political parties they all have agenda’s. We have to make a choice to consciously be aware of what the world is trying to teach our children, our next generation.

It’s so important to take an interest in the youth of America..don’t get me wrong, I love all the youth of the world..but I once heard this saying, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! What I mean to say is this, how do we change the world? One person at a time…the future of this country relies on how we raise our countries kids. This means we need to take the liberty’s afforded to us by those who died for our freedom. We don’t have time to waste!! Don’t wait until it’s too late..and make this statement “I wish I would’ve taken the time.” Dust off that Bible that’s been on the shelf, get on your knee’s and talk to God, assemble yourselves with other believers (go to church)…and go out and teach, be a living testimony, share the love of God with others, go or send those out to share the word of God with others.

(1 Corinthians 9:19 Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.)

At Power House we are changing the world one night at a time, by sharing the love of God and the good news of the gospel with America’s future, our children the next generation…If we don’t teach them to love all those things that are valuable the world will be teaching them to love all those things that will ultimately destroy them..(John 10:10..The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full) and this country that was founded on Biblical principals…those things our founding fathers of this country and many, many afterward have fought and even have died for…

Freedom isn’t free it cost a great price for us all here in the United States by those who was before us and who fight even now for it!

Someone paid a very costly price for you and me so that we could have a relationship with our maker the most high and only living God. That person was Jesus..John 3:16, says it all.. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

He gave so that we don’t have to..won’t you receive this gift that cost Jesus so much, or if you have share this gift of love with others?

Say this prayer if you would like to receive this freedom purchased for you:
Father God, I want to receive your gift of salvation purchased by your Son Jesus Christ. I admit, I am a sinner and I want to live for you now, I ask you to forgive me of my sins (wrong doings). I turn my back on my old life and I want to live for you now today and forever. Help me to have the boldness to share this gift with others and to live right every day. In Jesus precious name Amen.

Power House Adopt-A-Camper

This is our second year we will be doing our Power House Adopt-A-Camper campaign!! You may say, what!? Power House, say what, say what!! (A little too much Hannah Montana!) Power House was able to send 16 kids to camp last year and this year we are pursuing to send 16 kids again that may not ever get the opportunity to go if it weren’t for a program like Power House Adopt-A-Camper. Adopt-A-Camper is when we partner with these Power House kids who were exceptional students at each of our Power House sites to help them achieve the goal of raising the funds needed to attend kids camp.

You may wonder why Power House is so excited to have these kids experience kids camp??!! We see how each of their lives are affected by attending Power House one time a week. Imagine if you will what it would be like as a child to be saturated in the presence of Gods love for 4 1/2 days at camp, experiencing God on a whole new level..relying on Him for each physical challenge that is new and exciting and sometimes a little scary to someone who may have never experienced even being out of the city?!
Wow!!! What an incredible way to minister to a child, by partnering with them in a life changing experience!

We have some great way’s you can become involved in helping support this awesome cause!!

You, can make a difference and be a partner with these kids and Power House by attending our Flapjack fundraiser on Saturday, May 22nd from 8:00 AM-10:00 AM at Applebee’s in Grandville off Rivertown Pkwy at 4488 Potomac Ave.
Tickets are just $6.50 and include egg’s, bacon, all the pancakes you care to eat and your choice of beverage.

Tickets must be purchased in advance!!
Contact Char @ (616)261-3778 or charc@reslife.org for ticket’s.

Keep posted for future updates of events that you can be involved in to support Power House Adopt-A-Camper.

You can have influence in a community..

I once heard that it takes a community to raise a child. Think about that statement! Look around the communities you live in, drive through, and what’s going on in each one. You can tell when a community is interested in its youth.

It’s so wonderful to see when a community embraces a child, their gifting, their talents, and their interests. I have seen neighborhoods that have gone from run down with graffiti to cleaned-up neighborhood gardens and a community arts center for kids right here in the Grand Rapids area. I also have seen that it was a local church that took an interest in the community where they have felt God has planted them.

The bottom line is Jesus makes a difference in all of these areas I have mentioned. With out the love of Christ we would never really win in life.  Sure, you may have what the world may call successful or rich.  The fact is Solomon had all the wealth and things many things man may consider all you could want, wish for, dream of and more.  But there is only one thing that can fill that empty spot and that’s Jesus. Solomon talks about that in Song of Solomon in the Bible.

At Power House we are able to partner with a community for their youth, to help them raise up a generation of winners. Winners, you may ask??!  Yes, winners!  When these kids that we minister to receive Jesus, they also receive so much more. We train and equip these kids for successful, meaningful, and purposeful lives. Power House is only powerful because of the One who has sent us…God!

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

We share this message with the kids we minister to. They are more than what society has told them they are.

Power House Christmas

Well its that time of the year when we are celebrating our saviors birth! We have already had 3 of our celebrations! We have learned that the best gift for God is YOU!! God wants a relationship with you, He created us to have a relationship with us. Parents and kids alike have really responded to the invitation to receive the free gift of salvation. Remembering why we celebrate this awesome time of the year when our savior was born.

We have 3 more sites in Grand Rapids also 2 sites in Lansing next week.

Leave a Legacy

A man who was a great influence in my life passed away today.  Through TV ministry, world missions, and international Bible colleges, Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty has impacted lives of millions around the world.  Because of him, thousands of people are reached on a weekly basis in Tulsa.  Just this last weekend his church fed 3900 people Thanksgiving meals.  Each week 1200+ children come to church through the bus ministry.  Thousands are ministered to through Sidewalk Sunday School and food ministry.  Pastor Billy Joe was an amazing man of God.  His church is known for outreach; the one thing that amazed me about Victory Christian Center was you could have a millionaire sitting on one side of you and a homeless guy on the other.

I’m just one of the many people whose life that were touched by Pastor Billy Joe.  I attendend Victory Bible Institute in 1999 -2001 and stayed in Tulsa a while longer getting involved with the bus and sidewalk ministry at Victory Christian Center.  Outreach is in my DNA.  Hearing about Pastor’s graduation to heaven today just inspires me to do more.  Pastor has done more in his lifetime than what many could accomplish in five lifetimes!  He has left a legacy.

What we accomplish in this life will echo throughout eternity.  We’re given one life, one chance to have an impact on the world.   Will we live a self-absorbed life?  Or will we live a life that makes a differnce in others?  I want to leave an impact in this world.  I want to leave a legacy.

Thank you Pastor Billy Joe for passing the torch on to us.

Power House Baptism

Baptism is one of the fundamentals of Christianity. We had 3 weeks of teaching on baptism at the Alexander site.

Last week Wednesday, October 14th was the third time that Power House kids were involved. This is the second time that Alexander was involved in the kids baptism.

What an awesome opportunity to connect with families after the baptism. Francis Moore who is 16 years old has been going to Power House for years. Francis  was very happy to be able to have the opportunity to be baptized. She had her Aunt, two cousins and a friend come to watch her as she was baptized.

Power House is a wonderful place where kids are able to receive Jesus and grow and develop their walk with Christ. We are blessed to be able to offer baptism to the kids. Sometimes there’s kids who would like to get baptized through Power House but because of various reasons may not be able to. We are in prayer that whole families be saved and get to be baptized together. What an incredible thought…Jesus through the
Power House Ministry….
Restoring hope to not only a child but to a community.

There is only one true and living God!

This week at Power House we were teaching a lesson with this title. We do believe that there is only one true and living God and the only way to Him is through Jesus.

At the Power House sites we encounter diversity in more than just race. We get to minister and show the love of Jesus and share that Jesus is the only way to the Father. We always hope that as we do this we are showing this truth in a way that Jesus would. We are the body of Christ reaching out to the world around us.

Many times the body of Christ may get a bad name and offend a culture before even reaching them. We are in hope that at Power House, as the truth is told hearts are prepared by the Holy Spirit for conversion to happen.

The simple truth is this the Bible is the infallible truth, it’s the living word of God. We can’t deny this as believers. It’s our job to be vessels for the Holy Spirit to use to share the love of God. That truth that is the way if we yield and always do it Gods way, then victory is ours!

Psalm 115

1 Not to us, O LORD, not to us
but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness.

2 Why do the nations say,
“Where is their God?”

3 Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him.

4 But their idols are silver and gold,
made by the hands of men.

5 They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but they cannot see;

6 they have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but they cannot smell;

7 they have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but they cannot walk;
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.

8 Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.

9 O house of Israel, trust in the LORD—
he is their help and shield.

10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD—
he is their help and shield.

11 You who fear him, trust in the LORD—
he is their help and shield.

12 The LORD remembers us and will bless us:
He will bless the house of Israel,
he will bless the house of Aaron,

13 he will bless those who fear the LORD—
small and great alike.

14 May the LORD make you increase,
both you and your children.

15 May you be blessed by the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

16 The highest heavens belong to the LORD,
but the earth he has given to man.

17 It is not the dead who praise the LORD,
those who go down to silence;

18 it is we who extol the LORD,
both now and forevermore.
Praise the LORD.

New Volunteers

Wow!  God’s bringing in the laborers for the harvest!  We just had our very first open house for Power House.  At the ministry expo here at church we had many people waiting to get information about Power House.   We have college students from Cornerstone who are coming and helping out on Monday’s.  We are really going to wrap up 2009 with a bang for the kingdom of God through Power House and our volunteers!

Luke 10:2… “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

‘Camp and the Campers’

group-smallbunny_small

We had a great time at KidzCamp this summer!  Power House had 10 girls from 3 different sites at the August segment of camp!  That’s 13 girls and 3 boys for both of the camps this summer.  That’s the most we’ve ever sent to camp in one year!!! Continue reading ‘‘Camp and the Campers’’

CAMP AO-WA-KIYA

We want to thank all those who have donated to help send kids to camp so far! We have one of our weeks of camp over and have one more week of camp where the kids will be spending August 17th-22nd at Springhill. We are still receiving donations for and Adopt-A-Camper is still running for those who would like to participate in blessing these kids.

I would like to take this time to let all of you know about how the first week went. We had four kids from the Alexander site go to the first week of camp held at Ao-Wa-Kiya. Lou Mojica the site leader at Alexander was head counselor for the boys cabin and his assistant counselor was his son Nathanial who does the sound at Alexander. They had Jamari Flowers and Marquis Jenkins along with several other boys in their cabin. Annastasia Debose was the assistant counselor in the Gentleness cabin along with yours truly as counselor for the girls. We had nine girls total including Ashanti and Shareice from the Alexander site.

All four of the kids worked hard at the Power House Carwash to help raise money for camp as well as collect returnables.

When asked to tell what their favorite thing about camp was the kids responded by saying the zipline, tubing, food, meeting new friends. I have to say my favorite response was “Ms. Char I liked Chapel the best!” Wow, isn’t it awesome to know that these kids are hungering after righteousness and the word of God. I know that this response wasn’t to make me feel good or an act, it was a genuine response. The girl who said it was changed in one chapel on the Tuesday session in the morning something struck her that was said that just stuck with her. In that specific chapel, Mike talked about being hot or cold and how God said that He would spit you out of his mouth if you were luke-warm. She was talking to me about it and said with tears streaming down her face how she would be good in church and act good while she was there; And the next day at school or at home and sometimes the same day; She would not be so good and make poor choices and sometimes ridicule or be mean to other kids…and she didn’t want to be two different people any more, she didn’t want to be cold or luke-warm she wanted to be hot, on fire, for God. And that night when she made that commitment, she was changed from the inside out. I realized in that moment that she got it! I mean, she totally got what most of us adult Christians don’t ever get! That is to say she realized she was being doubleminded. How many of us adults or supposedly mature Christians really get that and want to change? Instead a lot of us stay in a ‘luke-warm’ state. That is what it is about, seeing hearts changed and hope restored. I have to say, Wow! God is truly good and camp is an awesome tool to minister the gospel, and plant the word of God in hearts of children, and deeply let it take root and grow and bring forth fruit. Families are touched and changed through what God does in these little ones.

On the way, home these kids were singing camp worship songs and it was truly worship at one of its best moment’s. We are so blessed to have the Power House van the kids watched a video and sang and we stopped at Mickey D’s on the way home for lunch. The kids say they want to go again next year if they get the opportunity! I say let’s make sure that we give them this opportunity again!

Ashanti, called and wanted to go to church on the Sunday after camp so she was picked up and was able to attend the Sunday morning service.

Please be prayerful about the next week at camp in August we hope to be able to send 12 kids from our other site’s that is 16 altogether with the four that was already sent. We are believing that we will raise the funds available at the Power House Car Show to be held on July 19th.
*We are in need of volunteers at the Car Show, sign up for a time slot by calling Tricia @ 616.249.3712.
